What Is Muqeem and How Does It Work?

Muqeem is a platform many expatriates encounter through their employer, and it often gets confused with Absher. This guide explains what Muqeem is, how it differs from Absher, what you can check on it, and when it is the right tool for verifying your residency information.

The quick answer

Muqeem (muqeem.sa) is a platform used mainly by companies and sponsors to manage the residency of their workers. It is different from Absher, which is aimed at individuals and citizens. Through Muqeem, a sponsor can check and manage Iqama validity, visas and worker information, and in some cases you can run a public inquiry using your Iqama or passport number.

What Muqeem is

Muqeem is a business-facing residency management platform. Where Absher serves individuals, Muqeem is built for the establishments and sponsors who manage groups of workers — companies, and the agents who handle residency on their behalf. If your employer talks about checking or renewing your documents on Muqeem, this is what they mean.

For workers, Muqeem most often matters as the place your employer manages your records, and sometimes as a way to run a quick validity check on yourself.

Muqeem vs Absher: the difference

The simplest way to think about it: Absher is for you as an individual, Muqeem is for your sponsor as an establishment. Absher gives a resident personal access to their own services; Muqeem gives a company tools to manage many workers' residency at once.

There is overlap in what can be checked — both can show Iqama validity, for example — but the audience and purpose differ. If you want personal access to your own services, Absher is the platform to set up. If your employer is doing the managing, it may well be through Muqeem.

What you can check on Muqeem

Depending on how your sponsor has set things up, Muqeem can let you check Iqama validity using your Iqama number or passport number, along with other details such as date of birth or expiry date. This makes it a useful fallback for verifying your status, especially for workers who do not control their own Absher account.

If you are checking your own status, our guide on checking Iqama via Muqeem walks through the steps. For the fullest personal control, though, setting up your own Absher access is still the best long-term option.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Muqeem as an individual?

Muqeem is primarily for sponsors and establishments, but it offers inquiry options that individuals can sometimes use to check validity with an Iqama or passport number. For full personal services, Absher is the individual platform.

Is Muqeem official?

Yes, it is an official residency management platform used by sponsors. It draws on the same government records as other official services.

My employer uses Muqeem — does that replace my Absher?

No. Your employer using Muqeem to manage you does not give you personal access to your own services. For that, set up your own Absher account.

Can I check this for free?

Yes. Checking your status through the official government portals is free of charge. You only pay when you carry out a paid transaction such as a renewal.

Do I need an Absher account?

Not always. While Absher is the most complete option, several checks also work through the MOI and labor ministry portals without a personal Absher login.

What details do I need?

Usually your Iqama number is enough. Some portals also let you search using your passport number, border number, date of birth or other details.
