Check your Iqama

Iqama Status Check Online (2026)

Checking your Iqama status is broader than just looking at the expiry date — it tells you whether your residence permit is active, expired, or carries a flag such as a Huroob report that could affect you. This guide explains how to read your overall Iqama status online, what each result means, and what to do next depending on what you find.

The quick answer

To check your Iqama status, use your Iqama number on the MOI portal, the Qiwa labor inquiry, or Absher. The result tells you whether your Iqama is valid (active), expired, or flagged with an issue such as a Huroob report. An 'active' status with a future expiry date is what you want to see. Anything else needs action, which we explain below.

How to check your Iqama status

Use any of these official services with your Iqama number. Each draws on the same government records, so the status they report is consistent.

1

Via MOI (Ministry of Interior)

MOI (Ministry of Interior) is the Ministry of Interior e-services portal.

  1. Open the MOI e-services portal at moi.gov.sa.
  2. Switch the language to English from the top menu if needed.
  3. Go to 'E-Services' and then the 'Passports' (Jawazat) services.
  4. Choose the query service, enter your Iqama number and the verification code, then submit.
Open MOI (Ministry of Interior) →
2

Via MOL / Qiwa

MOL / Qiwa is the labor ministry platform, useful when you do not have an Absher account.

  1. Go to the labor inquiry service on Qiwa (Ministry of Human Resources).
  2. Select the service to validate worker or Iqama information.
  3. Enter your Iqama number and your date of birth (Hijri or Gregorian).
  4. Enter the captcha code and submit to view your Iqama status.
Open MOL / Qiwa →
3

Via Absher

Absher is the main government portal for residents and citizens.

  1. Go to the Absher portal at absher.sa and log in with your username and password, or register through the Nafath app.
  2. Open the 'My Services' section and choose 'Services'.
  3. Select 'Reports' and then 'Documents' (or 'Alien Control').
  4. Your Iqama details, including the expiry date, will be displayed on screen.
Open Absher →

What each status result means

Active / valid

Your residency is in good standing and the expiry date is in the future. This is the normal, healthy status. Note the expiry date and set a reminder before it.

Expired

Your Iqama has passed its expiry date, which can mean fines and blocked services. Treat this as urgent and contact your sponsor to renew. See our late renewal fine guide.

Flagged (e.g. Huroob)

A flag such as an absent-from-work report changes your legal standing and needs prompt attention. See our dedicated Huroob status guide for what to do.

Status vs expiry: what is the difference?

People often use 'status' and 'expiry' interchangeably, but they are not the same. The expiry date is simply when your current Iqama runs out. The status is the bigger picture: it can be valid with a future expiry, but it can also be affected by other factors like a Huroob report, even if the date itself has not passed.

That is why a full status check is worth doing, especially before a job change, travel, or after any dispute with an employer. It catches issues the expiry date alone would not reveal.

Frequently asked questions

My status is active but I have a dispute with my employer

An active status is good, but disputes can lead to flags like Huroob later. Keep records and check again after any dispute. See our Huroob guide.

How is this different from checking the expiry date?

Expiry is just the date; status is the overall standing including any flags. This page covers the broader status; for the date specifically, see our Iqama expiry check guide.

Do I need an account to check my status?

No. The MOI and Qiwa public inquiries need only your Iqama number, no personal Absher login required.

Can I check this for free?

Yes. Checking your status through the official government portals is free of charge. You only pay when you carry out a paid transaction such as a renewal.

Do I need an Absher account?

Not always. While Absher is the most complete option, several checks also work through the MOI and labor ministry portals without a personal Absher login.

What details do I need?

Usually your Iqama number is enough. Some portals also let you search using your passport number, border number, date of birth or other details.
